CLINIQUE HIGH IMPACT CUSTOM BLACK KAJAL: This new Clinique’s release appears to be somehow similar to their Eyes Intense Liner, but has specific dark colours that claim to be pigment-rich and have up to 12 hours staying power.

CLINIQUE CITY BLOCK PURIFYING CHARCOAL CLAY MASK & SCRUB: This is a two-in-one mask that purifies skin with charcoal and clay that will absorb oil, and silica beads to exfoliate. Contains soothing agents, works in 5 minutes and won’t dry skin.

BAREMINERALS SKINLONGEVITY VITAL POWER INFUSION: It’s a fluid gel that will hydrate skin and add a lasting glow, maintaining it’s health and helping reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Contains a good mix of Niacinamide and Vitamin C for antioxidant properties.

MAC LIPTENSITY: Launched in the USA last week, this limited 24 shades lipstick edition is due to October here in Europe. “Fully saturated colour with a satin finish” is what we can expect from this range. Driftwood is the colour I’m dying to try on!!

MAC LIGHTFUL C MARINE BRIGHT SOFTENING LOTION

MAC LIGHTFUL C MARINE BRIGHT SOFTENING LOTION

Mac Lightful C Marine Bright Softening Lotion might have a confusing name but it’s actually a toner! It is part of their Lightful C permanent line with other 8 interesting skincare products.

I was particularly interested in buying this product because it really has an impressive formula: antioxidants, soothing and repairing agents to leave skin conditioned and more supple, fight signs of aging and even discoloration. That’s due to a good amount of Vitamin C present in the composition but we don’t know exactly the percentage (I would guess around 5% or higher).

At first, I did not know if I liked it or not,  I had the impression it left a slightly sticky feeling on my skin. Maybe I was using too much product. But after a good 2 weeks of daily use I started to like it and incorporated it into my skincare routine.

I love the idea of a single product with multiple benefits, and this one is a great one. It’s best if you have normal to dry skin, but it also claims to work for all skin types. I would just be careful not to overdoing it, I use a small amount on a cotton pad or even my hands. I haven’t seen any drastic improvements in skin’s brightness but I guess my skin is ok, and the fact that it can minimize UV-induced dark spots over time is good. And I can tell my skin is more hydrated. The bottle is quite big – 150ml, so it will definitely last a few months, even longer if you use it only once a day like me. But it’s a bit pricey.

Have you tried any of Mac’s Lightful C products? Let me know in the comments below!

EASY TEETH WHITENING

easy teeth whitening with baking soda

It’s not always we have the possibility to go for a professional teeth whitening but we certainly always want whiter teeth!! And what better than two simple tricks to do at home for great results with no fuss? While living in Paris my dentist taught me these 2 things to keep my smile bright and here’s what you can do:

1 – BRUSH YOUR TEETH WITH BAKING SODA (SODIUM BICARBONATE)

Have you ever heard about Julia Robert‘s beauty secret? That’s right, she claims to brush her teeth with baking soda thanks to her grandfather’s advice. My dentist told me I could do it once a week, putting the baking soda directly on the toothbrush instead of the regular toothpaste. You can also use it as a mouthwash diluted in water due to its high pH, disinfectant and antiseptic properties.

2- MAKE A LIME AND BAKING SODA PASTE

Another great thing for teeth whitening and for keeping it stain-free (especially if you drink coffee or wine regularly) is to make a lime and baking soda paste. You basically need one tea spoon of baking soda and one table spoon of freshly squeezed lime, you mix them (do not use any metals) and apply directly to your teeth with a cotton, leaving for a maximum of 2 minutes (baking soda is abrasive). Alternatively, you can delicately brush your teeth with it. She told me to do it only once a month so I believe she’s on the safe side. I’ve heard people saying this can be done on a weekly basis, but I’ve never tried that much myself to tell. I’ve also only used lime (which is the green one) but guess the acidity of both lemon and lime should work fine.

IN SUMMARY, THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING:

– Brush your teeth with baking soda once a week;

– Make a paste with 1 tea spoon of baking soda + 1 table spoon of squeezed lime, applying with a cotton to the teeth for 2 minutes, once a month

The great thing about this beauty hack is that it’s very cheap and effective, I’ve seen results myself and try to do it on a regular basis! But bare in mind that you should always speak to your dentist before trying any of this, as it might not suit you.

Have you ever tried these beauty hacks at home? What do you do to maintain your teeth white? Let me know in the comments!

BENEFITS OF VITAMIN C FOR YOUR SKIN

BENEFITS OF VITAMIN C FOR YOUR SKIN

Vitamin C is not only good for our body but for topic use as well. It is proven to be one of the most beneficial vitamins to apply to the skin for it’s antioxidant properties: it fights free radicals that causes damages to our skin and make it age prematurely. Vitamins C is also essential in collagen production, which can reduce wrinkles and make your skin look firmer; boosts skin defense against UV, reduces inflammation, helps skin heals better and has also the ability to help fading dark spots.

Concentration is also important depending on what you’re targeting: the higher concentration of vitamin C, the better the results you are getting, specially when it comes to minimizing discolorations. Lower concentrations can still work as a great antioxidant while higher ones (5% up to 25%) can fade dark spots.

It’s important to mention that you want to look for a packaging that keeps the vitamin C stable like opaque tubes and the ones that do not let air come in, otherwise you can loose all the benefits of the vitamin.

I’m currently using the La Roche Posay Redermic C UV SPF 25 (bought in France), which is very handy because it has multiple benefits in a single treatment: 5% of Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid to plump skin, Mannose to hydrate and SPF 25. It is not greasy but hydrates very well, just don’t know how it would work on oily skin but it says it’s suitable for all skin types. In the UK you can find it’s version without SPF but for both dry and combination skin.

For my Brazilian readers there’s also a good option from Natura, which is the Chronos Pharma Sérum Intensivo Clareador Antissinais, with also 5% of vitamina C, vitamin E and Elastinol R.

My next on the list is the recently launched La Roche Posay Redermic C10, with 10% vitamin C, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid for even more vitamin C power!

Vitamin C is one of the TOP 3 ingredients I listed as essential for our skincare routine, make sure to check my post with more details here!

HOW TO GET SMOOTH SKIN IN THE SHOWER WITH 2 PRODUCTS

HOW TO GET SMOOTH SKIN IN THE SHOWER WITH 2 PRODUCTS

For years I felt like my skin was in permanent winter. I’ve always had super dry skin and dry hair, and I managed to hydrate my locks pretty well, neglecting the rest of my body. It was a combination of products that just didn’t work, with my laziness to just think about putting on a lotion after showering (please don’t tell me I’m alone!).

For a while I’ve settle with the fact that the dark blue Nivea (which apparently was the strongest on the market) simply wasn’t hydrating enough for my skin. Whenever I remembered (actually whenever I felt like…) I would use a body lotion to mask a bit of the ‘desert’ situation to other people’s eyes but, looking closely, the problem was there.

Finally two years ago, in a French pharmacy, I found the holy grail of my skin. It is the Bioderma Atoderm Intensive, a powerful moisturizer which restores the skin barrier. Whenever I used it, I achieved great results, the solution to my problems, if it wasn’t for the fact that you have to use it after you shower… And that’s when I found Weleda body oils.

With natural ingredients, their range of body oils go from Wild Rose (which I bought first) to Citrus, Calendula, Pomegranate, etc and the one I’m currently loving – the Evening Primrose. It’s said to be for mature skin but I just love the fact that it’s revitalizing and helps keep skin moisture. It has a deep yellow color and the smell isn’t strong, and the way you use it is in the end of the shower on wet skin, before you dry with the towel. It’s actually a mix of different oils  like Jojoba, Sesame, Sunflower, Oilive and of course Evening Primrose that have amazing properties for our body.

And to get rid of some of that dry/dead skin I normally exfoliate twice a week with Garnier Beauty Oil Nourishing Scrub. I’ve always liked Garnier’s scrubs as I just find them effective – I also love this one from them. The nourishing scrub is infused with 4 oils – Argan, Macadamia, Almond & Rose – so it exfoliates and nourishes skin at the same time. And right after I apply the Weleda Oil and voilà, silky smooth skin in two easy steps!
