HOW TO CHOOSE FLAT SANDALS FOR THE SUMMER

HOW TO CHOOSE FLAT SANDALS FOR THE SUMMER

My first summer in London has been ok: I didn’t have any high expectations so I can’t say I’m disappointed. We are enjoying the sun whenever we can and afternoons are mostly pleasant. But I’ll be away on holidays the entire month of August, so who knows if I’ll be missing a better weather!

Coming from a Tropical country, I can say flat sandals are the equivalent of wellies here. You must own at least one pair because you will be using it a lot! And I have to admit, Brazilian shoes are hard to compare, we definitely make wonderful ones!

If you are staying in the country or packing for the Holidays, check my tips on how to choose your flats this summer:

SHAPE

The first thing you must look for in a flat sandal is a shape you love. As you can see, my 3 sandals have the exact same design, which I find to be the most flattering to my feet. You can surely have a few models if you prefer variety, but I have tried different ones and decided to stick to this shape for the way it looks and for its comfort.

COMFORT

Flats should always be comfortable, but that’s not necessarily the case: hard materials and small sizes can become uncomfortable after a few hours of use. And, if like myself, you run around the entire day on your sandals, you will want them to be as pleasant as possible to your feet. Don’t be afraid to get them half a size bigger if, of course, they don’t look or feel too loose.

COLOUR

I’ve tried white, coloured, golden and silver flat sandals and my conclusion is that you better stick to basics when you choose an everyday pair. Black and camel are no-brainers and look elegant with virtually everything (I just wouldn’t wear a bright red outfit with the camel colour, though). I just recently got this in camel (here and here, and both black and cognac colours are on sale here), meaning last summer I had basically lived in my black Michael Kors pair.

MATERIAL

No need to say I love leather flat sandals. They really last! I don’t get smells, it’s normally not slippery or sticky like plastic ones can be, and again, the durability is really good. I’ve had my gemstone (and leopard print!) sandal for years now and it’s still in great shape. If you want something out of the ordinary and that you can use with more chic outfits or to go out at night, you should definitely look for gemstones. I absolutely love mine from Brazil in emerald green, they look fabulous with denim, black and white outfits, and with a bold pink lipstick.

EASY SUMMER LOOK

EASY SUMMER LOOK

TOP: Asos/ SKIRT: Zara / SANDALS: Aldo Shoes

My previous look with this brown & blue skirt (here) was all about transitioning from spring to summer with a long sleeve denim shirt. Now I’ve put together an easy summer look with the same skirt, but adding lightness through this slightly sheer cami top from Asos (I bought this pack with a white and a black one which is on sale now!) I feel these tops are a staple in the summer wardrobe because they look great with skinny jeans, trousers, and fitted skirts.

The flats are my recent buy from Aldo, and the camel colour compliments the brown and yellow tones of the skirt. Very light, very summer and very easy, this look is great for a day out in the sun!

SIDE-SLIT PENCIL SKIRT AND CROPPED TOP

SIDE-SLIT PENCIL SKIRT AND CROPPED TOP

TOP: Bershka / SKIRT: Forever 21 / SHOES: Aldo / SUNNIES: Prada

Hey, guys! Sales started here in the UK and it’s a great moment to revamp our wardrobe. I’ve done a little shopping (mainly on the internet) and so far it includes both mid-season and summer pieces.

Today’s flat lay happens to be one exclusively with pieces I recently bought (ok, except for the sunnies!) and it’s a black look with a touch of colour. I’m loving cotton mid length skirts right now, and Forever 21 has a very big and cheap selection! This one is currently £6 (here) and it used to retail for £9. What a bargain!! And I love how it fits nicely and the side-slit makes it ultra feminine.

For a body hugging outfit, I added this sleeveless body top from Bershka’s new collection (here), that pairs nicely with the skirt because it is cropped (and the skirt is high waisted). So £16 pounds for top and bottom is all we want! I’m thinking that this top will also look great with my culottes so that’s another outfit idea.

Talking about the shoes now, I have to admit I was dying to find this exact model since last summer! I saw a single pair in France and regretted immensely not buying it because obviously the following day the pair was gone (who’s with me?…). Luckily I passed by Aldo Shoes and spotted this Cognac Flat Sandals. The colour is great to break from the black (they also have in black and white) and bare in mind they run a bit big! I’m glad I was in the store to try them on. And spending less with clothes gives us some margin for good leather shoes!!

CROPPED EVERYTHING

CROPPED EVERYTHING

TOP & BOTTOM: Forever 21 / SHOES: Zara

Cropped Everything: This look features my black cropped trousers – or culottes – and a white cropped top. To master the cropped everything look you really need the high waisted bottom so it looks elegant when you show your piece of skin! The flare culottes also look better when paired with a fitted top and in this particular look with heeled shoes for the extra elegance! Also, adding the extra humpf with red lipstick looks great on a black and white look. My go to lipstick is Russian Red by MAC.

BROWN & BLUE SKIRT

BROWN & BLUE SKIRT

SKIRT: Zara / SHIRT: Jennifer / HEELS: H&M

My last Denim Shirt Look was a more casual one, and now I’ve put together a summer lady-like outfit that is full of colours. When I bought this beautiful skirt at Zara I soon realised it wasn’t going to be easy to find a matching top. It doesn’t look like it but it’s actually pretty tricky – I’ve tried with different tops and only a very few looked good. One of them was the dark blue denim shirt, which is so versatile and I love it for that. The combination really made the outfit stand out, making the look bold and feminine, with the addition of the heeled strappy sandals. This look is also nice for mid-season, just use the long sleeves unfolded!

LIGHT BLUE

LIGHT BLUE

NECKLACE: Accessorize / HAT: Next / PANTS: H&M / TOP: Lipsy

This look is a total mixture of feminine and edgy. The light blue sweater is a bit long and almost off the shoulder  (the cut isn’t that open, more of a boat neck) but you have that same flattering effect. Then there is the acrylic necklace that I used in this look, which is the perfect piece to draw attention whilst being delicate. And for an edge I added the light grey fedora felt hat that compliments the sweater color, and faux leather skinny pants to keep it chic. As for the shoes I’m still deciding what should go with it. Any thoughts??
