Turning 30 made me realise (taking a closer look at my skin) that I need to have an effective skincare routine to start repairing some visible damages and avoid future ones. But in a sea of beauty products, miracle promises and thousands and thousands of ingredients, it’s too easy to get lost. Here is my tip on the top 3 ingredients you would want to incorporate into your daily routine:
Hyaluronic Acid: it’s the key to holding moisture to your skin. Our skin barrier can be affected over time by many factors including sun damage, and the skin will lose firmness as it looses moist. As this is a skin-identical ingredient (because it is a natural structural component of skin), it can help strengthen skin’s barrier and retain moisture, so it looks plumper, softer and youthful.
Vitamin C: one of the most powerful antioxidants out there. It provides a skin-rejuvenating effect by improving collagen synthesis in the skin that slows down with aging, as well as limiting skin damage from free radicals. Vitamin C can make your skin brighter and diminishes dark spots as it regulates the skin’s melanin production. Look for a minimum concentration of 5% in a package that will keep product stable for better results. (More on products I use here)
Retinol: (vitamin A) is an excellent anti-aging ingredient. It helps improve skin’s structure for its ability to communicate with cells, meaning it can connect to almost any skin cell and tell it to behave healthily. It also provides antioxidant support and can help rejuvenate skin and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Retinol is also effective at managing acne, eczema and improves discoloration.
